Rock on Rockingham
Rockingham International Horse Trials returns to Rockingham Castle from Friday 20th through to Sunday 22nd May, bigger and better than ever. A firm favourite in the calendars of many of the best event riders in the world, it also attracts an everincreasing number of spectators who flock to the castle to enjoy a day filled with top class sport, country demonstrations, children’s entertainment and fabulous shopping.
The stunning 11th century castle and spectacular Welland Valley provide a perfect backdrop for a family day out. For equestrian followers there will be top event riders, some of whom will be heading out to Rio for the 2016 Olympic Games later in the year; show jumpers; pony club competitors; and young event horses – the stars of the future.
For spectators who prefer their four-legged companions to be of a smaller variety, the Nuneaton Dog Display team will be demonstrating, as will the Mullencote Gun Dogs and the Empingham Dog Agility Team; the latter will be running a ‘have-ago’ arena so that canine family members can be put to the test. X-Treme Falconry will also be at the event, and children can enjoy the always popular climbing wall. Rockingham International wouldn’t be Rockingham International without some good shopping to be had. Visitors can buy everything from a Landrover or hand-made Robert Loomes English watch to clothing, jewellery, gifts and homewear.
If this all sounds like thirsty work, there will be a large, on-site bar and numerous food outlets to cater for all tastes and appetites. It is not all to eat on-site either; countless folk are seen leaving with a box from The Brownie Company, while other stall holders market delicious jams, pickles, cheeses and sweets.
There truly is something for every member of a family. The more riders and spectators, who can experience the ever-more action packed programme and enjoy the stunning parkland at Rockingham Castle, the better. The event’s organising team are counting down to this year’s trials with their usual excitement; visitors can be sure of a warm welcome at Rockingham International Horse Trials.
